Otter Spotter Data

There are 2 ways to submit your data:
  1. Fill out the form on the right, or
  2. Email Spotter@RiverOtterEcology.org
Your observations will help document the status and ecology of river otters in the Bay Area, so please provide accurate information, and as much detail as you can.  You can also upload pics/video.  Check out the Bay Area River Otter Map currently being compiled with your help. 

IF YOU OBSERVED OTTERS DEFECATING OR COLLECTED OTTER SCAT FOR OUR DIET ANALYSIS PLEASE CONTACT US RIGHT AWAY AT Spotter@RiverOtterEcology.org.

    Note re the form:  Most fields require a response for the form to be submitted successfully.  When you submit successfully you will see a confirmation page.  If you don't see that, just scan back through your form to make sure all the fields are entered correctly then hit submit again.  * = required.

    Provide detail so we can accurately map the location. If you have GPS coordinates, great! Otherwise, provide the closest street address or marker.
    Please describe behavior such as foraging for or actively feeding on prey, resting, swimming, preening, resting, sleeping, sunning, mating, on land/in water. Also describe any social interactions between individuals.
    Pups would be noticeably smaller than the adults. If you are not sure still record the observation but be sure to record the uncertainty.
    If you only observed what yo believe to be adults, this will be the same as the total # sighted.
    If you didn't observe pups your answer will be 0.
    If you observed pups try to size them. If you didn't observe pups then check Not Applicable.
